“Haute Couture” Oil on canvas by listed Swedish artist Marianne Helensummer e Agren painter and printmaker born Malmo 1943. She studied at the Art Academy 72-79 and the Summer Academy in Zatzberg. She is best known for beautiful women in their prime and landscapes of outdoor parties ready to go before the guests arrive. Her style is called impressionist-expressionist. She has exhibited all over Sweden and her work is in many town collections plus private and corporate collections. This is our fourth Agren.

“Spring Flowers in a Stoneware Jar” Still life oil on canvas signed lower right by well listed artist Anna Margareta Ulrika Gerell (1898-1982) known as Greta placed Hemmarö and dated 1937. A painter and printmaker, she studied at Stockholm Academy, Munich, Florence and Paris. This painting of desirable vertical large host roses, white and yellow daisies, iris and peony. Gerell is known for portraits, animal paintings-often horses, Paris views, landscapes and still life’s as well as interiors. She is listed in Bénézit vol 6, ph 38, Svenska Konstnarër (Swedish artists) Ph 181 and The Lexington of Swedish Artist Vol 2 pg 284. She was strongly influenced by the French impressionist, having studied in Paris under the famous André Lhote and later on in the south of France during the period she painted this still life. Greta debuted in Stockholm in 1927. In addition to subsequent Stockholm showings, she also exhibited in many other Swedish towns including Västerås, Norrköpig, Göteborg,Eskilstuna, Gäule, Östersand, Båras and Sköude between 1927 and 1951. She received medals from The Swedish Artist Organization. Her work is represented in 7 Swedish museums: The National Museum in Stockholm, Göteborg Art Museum and Norrköping, Gault Västerås, Strängnäs and Eskilstuna plus in the collection of the Dramatic Theater in Stockholm and The City Theatre in Göteborg

“The Yellow Boathouse “ Oil on canvas by well listed Swedish Artist Elias Theodor Wallin (1888-1974) known as Ellis! Painter and printmaker, he studied in Stockholm at 3 respected art schools. He travelled to Italy and Holland and based himself in Paris 1920-33 His exhibitions all over Sweden showed the French influence on his art. He participated in major salons in Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam. His work is in 12 Swedish and 3 French museums. Gothenburg, Malmo,Norrkoping, Eskilstuna, Boras, Vasteras, Orebri, Karlstad, zoster suns, Ateneum Helsingfor, Uppsala, Gavle: these are all Swedish Museums plus three in France: Institut Tessin in Paris, Pau and The Louvre.

“My Daughter at the Harpsichord” oil on panel by listed Swedish Artist Carl Hjalmar Strååt (1885-1971) known as a painter and graphic artist he studied at Stockholm Art Academy. He painted a broad spectrum portraits - often of children, interior, picturesque city scenes, landscapes of the island of Gotlandand of the fishing industry. This charming portrait of his young daughter sitting on a plank seat chair playing by candle lighting also shows a portrait of his young barefoot son on the reverse. Signed lower right. His work is represented at at least 9 Swedish Museums: National and Waldemarsadde in Stockholm plus Gothenburg Art Museum and Röhsska in the same city, Boras Norrköpings, Västerås, Örelorg and Karlstad. He exhibited all over Sweden, Copenhagen, Brussels, Vienna and NY.

Oil on panel by listed Swedish Artist Gustaf Magnusson (1890-1957) A Stockholmer, he studied with the Academy plus in Denmark, Norway, Germany and Italy. He painted both frescos in historic public buildings and portraits of royal personages including Sweden’s Prince Eugen, also a famous artist in his own right. This beguiling view of blonde brother and sister on a seaside dock in summer is typical of the artist classic depictions of young people in Swedish landscapes. His work is represented in 3 Stockholm Museums The Uffizi (Florence) British Museum (London) Brooklyn Museum US and the Munich Museum. Signed lower right and dated 1944“

He is known for city scenes, landscapes, harbor and archipelago views. This coastline was probably painted in the world famous Swedish archipelago, home to thousands of islands.

“le Pont Neuf Paris” by listed Danish artist Hans Bendix(1898-1984) Signed LK and place LL who was born in Copenhagen. He was known as a cartoonist painter or social activist. He studied in Copenhagen, London and Paris where he drew for LeQuotinden. Owing to being co-editor of two anti-nazi magazines he was exiled to the usa 1941-45. He was awarded many medals/prices including Eckersberg Medal 1951, Storm Petersen price 1962 and the Order of Daineborg. He had solo exhibitions at the Danish art Association in 1941,1958, and 1972. The museum of Decorative Arts in 1973 and the National Gallery Oslo in 1974. He often painted portraits of young women and french scenes specially paris, in his relaxed graceful style. Bendix Work is represented in Danish and Foreign museums. His memoirs are publish in four volumes 1967-1975.

This gathering of Christmas revellers takes place in one of Stockholm’s most famous squares in Old Town, the 12th century birthplace of the city. Ryberg a self taught naive artist known for his whimsical brightly colored cityscapes, he is represented in many corporate and private collections in Sweden, France and the USA. he is recognized as a print maker but his original oils are more highly sought after. Excellent condition.
